HORSESHOE CRAB
This sculpture is based on the Horseshoe Crab (Limilidae) marine arthropods which are more closely related to arachnidsthan to crabs or crustaceans and which have been around for upto 450 million years. The sculptures shown in the pictures during construction are approximately 0.50 metre long, made from Mild Steel then spray galvanised and painted gold as specified by the client for indoor display. We were asked to make this one for wall mounting so they have brackets welded to the body, one crab showing the shell, the other the underside. This could be reproduced in Stainless Steel for outdoor display and given other finishes if preferred. It can be easily scaled up if desired and the pose altered to suit. Other Crustacens and Insects could easily be made instead.
